Aftercare: Medication, Follow-up & Going Home

Your care doesn’t end at the airport. Here’s how to plan a smooth transition home.

Medication continuity

• Ask your doctors for a written medication plan (what, dose, how long).
• Request sufficient medication for the journey and the follow-up period.
• For ongoing medication, ask about supply arrangements or prescriptions your home doctor can continue.
• Carry medications in original packaging with a translated list (for customs).

Follow-up

• Ask for a follow-up schedule and what to check when you’re home.
• Request an English discharge summary and results to share with your home doctor.
• Many hospitals offer teleconsultation follow-up after you return.

Sending results home

• Ask for digital copies (PDF) of reports, imaging, and results to keep and share.
• Keep a central folder (paper + digital) of everything — diagnosis, treatment, medications, and follow-up.
