Step 3 · Consultation

Prepare for your visit or consult remotely: translation, records, and what to bring and ask.

The consultation is where your case is actually assessed. Communication is the biggest variable in how well it goes — so prepare for the language and records, not just the appointment.

Many international patients do a remote consultation first, so they arrive in China already knowing the plan and cost.

  1. Send your records (medical history, imaging, lab results) to the hospital’s international department or to us.
  2. The team reviews them and may ask for a video call.
  3. You receive a written treatment plan and a cost quote.
  4. You decide whether to come — with full information.

Preparing your medical records

  • Gather everything: past diagnosis letters, surgery reports, lab results, imaging (CD or DICOM), and a list of all current medications and allergies.
  • Translate if helpful. Many hospitals will review English records directly, but having key documents translated into Chinese can speed things up and reduce misunderstandings.
  • Be honest and complete. Omitting a condition can lead to complications. Your full history is your safety.

What to bring to the appointment

  • 1
Passport / ID and appointment confirmation.
  • 2
All prior medical documents and imaging.
  • 3
A written list of your top 5–10 questions — it’s easy to forget in the moment.
  • 4
A companion or interpreter if you want a second set of ears.

10 questions worth asking

  1. What exactly is my diagnosis, and how confident are you?
  2. What treatment options do I have, and which do you recommend?
  3. What are the risks, and what are the realistic outcomes?
  4. How long will the treatment take, and how many hospital stays?
  5. What is the full expected cost, and what is included?
  6. Who will actually perform the treatment (which doctor)?
  7. What is the follow-up plan after treatment?
  8. What should I do to prepare before starting?
  9. What are the warning signs I should watch for?
  10. Can I get my records and reports in English?

💡 Don’t leave without clarity. If something is unclear, ask again. You can also ask for a follow-up call if you need time to think.
