Renji Hospital (瑞金医院), founded in 1907 and affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s School of Medicine, is one of China’s premier Grade III-A general hospitals. It is a major referral and teaching center and is consistently ranked among the leading hospitals in the country.

The first Western-style hospital in Shanghai. Renji Hospital was founded in 1844 as Wade Memorial Hospital, the first Western-style hospital after Shanghai opened as a treaty port. It is a large modern Grade III-A hospital (~2,250 beds, 50+ departments), especially strong in gastroenterology, organ transplant, urology, and neurosurgery.
