Visas & entry
Do I need a visa to come to China for treatment? Usually yes, but rules depend on your nationality and how long you’ll stay. Some countries have visa-free or transit-visa-free options for short stays. Check with the Chinese embassy/consulate and see our Visa guide.
How long should I stay? It depends on your treatment. A consultation may take 2–4 days; a procedure or surgery often 1–3 weeks including recovery. We’ll help you plan the right length.
The treatment
Will there be a language barrier? China’s international departments provide English-language support and medical interpreters. We can arrange a dedicated interpreter for your whole visit. See our Language guide.
Are Chinese hospitals safe and well-equipped? Major Grade III-A hospitals (the top tier) use modern equipment and follow international standards. We profile the top hospitals and their specialties so you can choose well.
How is the quality of care? China has some of the highest-volume, most experienced specialists in the world, especially in procedures like cataract surgery, joint replacement, and cardiac intervention. Quality is high at leading centers.
Will my doctor speak English? International-department staff and the interpreters we arrange communicate in English. Not every doctor does, which is exactly why we coordinate interpreters.
Cost & payment
How much will it cost? It varies by treatment, hospital, and city. We provide indicative US$ ranges for common treatments and a Cost Estimator. Always get a written, itemized quote from the hospital.
Is it cheaper than in my country? For many procedures, yes — China is often substantially less than the US/UK for comparable care. See our cost guides.

Do hospitals work with my insurance? Some large international insurers have direct-billing arrangements in China; otherwise you pay and claim reimbursement. See our Insurance guide.
Practical
